Downtown stores announce departures; shrimp spot debuts at Town Square

Downtown is bidding farewell to a reinvigorated staple and will soon lose a newer hangout.

White Cross Market, the successor to White Cross Drugs, closed this week, and O Face Doughnuts announced it also would shutter soon.

A specialty coffee shop has debuted in the Las Vegas Valley, and there's a new gallery in the area.

Meanwhile, a California-based restaurant/bar chain has entered the local market.

    • O Face Doughnuts

      O Face Doughnuts announced Monday that it would close by the end of the year.

      “Although we are saddened by our closing, we look forward to exploring our options in the New Year,” the company said in a Facebook post.

      The downtown shop, which opened last spring in the remade John E. Carson hotel building, drew praise for its unique assortment of donuts.

      The reason behind the closure of the business, at 124 S. 6th St., Suite 140, near Fremont Street and Las Vegas Boulevard South, was not immediately available.

      Pour opened to the public Oct. 19 at 6811 S. Eastern Ave., Suite 104-D, near East Sunset Road.

      The 1,500-square-foot business offers espresso and coffee drinks, gourmet grilled-cheese sandwiches and pastries.

      The business is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

    • Killer Shrimp officially opened at Town Square on Oct. 31, 2015.

      Killer Shrimp

      Killer Shrimp launched its first restaurant outside California with the debut of its Town Square spot.

      The restaurant, which is about 5,500 square feet, officially opened on Halloween. It includes TVs for sports fans, dark wood finishes, black and gray walls, and a covered patio, according to a company news release.

      Killer Shrimp's menu offers seafood, surf and turf, steak, dessert, craft cocktails and more.

      The business is open 11:30 a.m. to midnight every day. The full menu is offered 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. with the happy hour menu served from 3 to 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. to midnight.

    • No, you can't rent jet skis to navigate the waters of the Venetian's Grand Canal.

      Lumas

      Photography company Lumas is expected to open a new flagship gallery Thursday at the Grand Canal Shoppes at Venetian.

      The company, established in 2003, aims to make “museum-quality art photography affordable for everyone,” according to a Lumas news release.

      It has more than 40 galleries across the world.

      Hours of operation at the Venetian gallery will be 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays.

    • White Cross Market

      A well-known downtown market is saying goodbye.

      White Cross Market closed Wednesday, about two years after the former pharmacy reopened as a grocery store.

      The pharmacy, White Cross Drugs, opened in 1955 and filled prescriptions for Elvis Presley and other entertainment icons.

      Vickie’s Diner, which is inside White Cross Market, is expected to stay open. The market is at 1700 Las Vegas Blvd. South, near East St. Louis Avenue.
