Las Vegas sees 4.8 percent increase in April visitors

Las Vegas recorded a visitor volume increase of 4.8 percent in April over the previous year, according to numbers released today by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

The number of visitors increased to 3.35 million in April from 3.2 million April 2010.

Convention attendance increased 2.2 percent from 426,697 to 435,934 during the year-over-year period. Las Vegas hosted an estimated 1,837 conventions during the month of April, according to the LVCVA.

Citywide hotel occupancy increased from 84 percent in April 2010 to 87.7 percent this past April. The average daily room rate increased 9.1 percent from $97.87 to $105.67.

Passenger traffic at McCarran International Airport increased 2.3 percent from last April, while vehicle traffic on Interstate 15 at the Nevada/California state line was up 3.4 percent.

Visitor volume to Laughlin dropped 1.7 percent from April 2010 to April 2011 while Mesquite saw an increase of 6.6 percent.
