Las Vegas records 7 percent gain in visitors in June

June brought Las Vegas its 16th straight month of visitation and room rate gains, according to numbers released today.

The number of visitors for June increased by 7 percent from 3.1 million in 2010 to 3.3 million in 2011, according to a monthly report from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Room rates for the month increased 13 percent from $90 last year to $101 in June of this year.

Citywide occupancy rates also increased during the past year, from 82.1 percent to 88.5 percent.

Convention attendance during the year-over-year period was up 2 percent, while the number of meetings held during June increased from 2.8 percent.

Passenger traffic at McCarran International Airport was up 5.6 percent during the year-over-year period while traffic at the Nevada/California line was up 1.7 percent.

Visitation in Laughlin fell 5.4 percent from June 2010 to June 2011 while it decreased by 2.8 percent in Mesquite.

Also today, the state reported that casinos along the Las Vegas Strip posted a 32.3 percent increase in winnings due in large part to baccarat and craps.
