VEGAS INC to become part of new publication, The Sunday

VEGAS INC is undergoing a transformation and expansion all in one.

On Feb. 9, the award-winning business weekly will become part of The Sunday, an innovative, free news and business publication that will be distributed directly to current VEGAS INC subscribers as well as a broader audience in the Las Vegas Valley.

The Sunday will explore a wide range of topics in addition to business, including local news, politics, sports, gaming, home and lifestyle. It will provide a mix of traditional narrative stories with at-a-glance packages containing graphics, lists and illustrations, all designed to provide deeper perspective on complicated topics and broaden readers’ understanding of issues and personalities.

Produced by the award-winning Greenspun Media Group staff, the most respected news organization in Nevada, The Sunday is designed to cater to readers who have a diet of daily news online and want to spend their weekends taking a deeper dive into local news and business content. It’s also aimed at people seeking an alternative to traditional newspaper stories and formatting.

The publication will be distributed free at more than 1,500 newsstands in the Las Vegas Valley.

“We looked around us for what was missing in Clark County — a publication that would be attractive to everyone from teenagers to retirees, policy wonks to sports aficionados, to moms and business owners, and it seemed quite obvious it was the sort of weekly publication that would have content for everyone,” said Brian Greenspun, editor and publisher of the Greenspun Media Group. “The next step was to package it in an exciting way so that it could sit on coffee tables for a week, and the final step was to make it available free, and become the most important source of news and information about where and how we live.

“With The Sunday, we’ve accomplished our mission. And because it’s new and young and ultimately belongs to our readers, we are eager to hear feedback and suggestions for how we can further meet their needs and engage in their lives.”

The definitive business publication in the region, VEGAS INC will be included in its entirety as a section of The Sunday. There will be no changes in VEGAS INC content, meaning readers will continue to see the same cover stories, recaps of the biggest business news, commentary and other regular features contained in the current publication. That also applies to business notes, records and transactions, the weekly business calendar, The List and other research material the VEGAS INC audience relies on.

“I got my start at GMG as the editor of VEGAS INC, so I’m especially pleased that the publication is being expanded and will live on fully intact in The Sunday,” said Ric Anderson, managing editor of the GMG newsroom. “We’ll continue to provide our VEGAS INC readers with everything they’ve come to expect in the publication while also giving them a progressive, new weekly package of news and information. At the same time, we’re massively expanding the distribution footprint of VEGAS INC, so more readers than ever will have access to this content. This is an exciting time for GMG. ”

With the debut of The Sunday, the family-owned media company launches a first: a full-color news publication for a metro area filled with insightful stories that explain what has happened and will be happening in Southern Nevada. Moreover, it will analyze the back-stories — the why and how behind the news and how it affects us.

Readers will find a blend of lifestyle features for all ages: longer, literary features and profiles, info-graphics — including the “5-Minute Expert,” which will explain complicated issues of the day in easily grasped terms — and a comprehensive calendar of events, along with other resources integral to living and working in Southern Nevada. The Sunday also will be chock-full of photographs, puzzles and other elements to engage readers.

The editor of The Sunday is Delen Goldberg, expanding on her leadership role as editor of VEGAS INC.

“We think we’ve nailed it,” Goldberg said of the publication. “Between the helpful features and analytical coverage of the news that affects us, we expect The Sunday to play a singular and distinguished role in informing Southern Nevadans about what’s going on around us.”

For VEGAS INC subscribers, there will be no change in delivery: The Sunday will be distributed to them exactly like VEGAS INC. For others interested in obtaining The Sunday, it will be offered in the same locations as Las Vegas Weekly, its sister arts-and-entertainment publication, along with new distribution points.
