After a little more than a year on the job, NV Energy’s top finance executive is resigning to join a hotel chain.
Chief Financial Officer Jonathan Halkyard will leave the Las Vegas power company on Sept. 13 and become the chief operating officer of Extended Stay America on Sept. 30.
He will be replaced at NV Energy by Chief Accounting Officer E. Kevin Bethel, utility officials announced today. Halkyard submitted his resignation on Friday, and the board of directors voted on Saturday to accept it.
Extended Stay America, based in Charlotte, N.C., said in a separate announcement today that it had hired Halkyard to oversee hotel operations, purchasing, loss prevention and facilities.
The company has 682 locations in the United States and Canada.
Halkyard joined NV Energy, which serves about 90 percent of Nevada’s population, last July. Prior to that, he was chief financial officer of Las Vegas casino giant Caesars Entertainment Corp.
He earned $1.9 million in total compensation last year from NV Energy, including $221,154 for his salary and $1.47 million in stock awards, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Bethel joined NV Energy in November 2007 as the chief accounting officer.
