    • Several local law firms and attorneys were recognized by Super Lawyers, a listing of regional lawyers who attain a high degree of professional achievement and peer recognition. Nevada is part of the Mountain States region, along with Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.       Ray Jones

      Ray Jones, an attorney at Snell & Wilmer, will serve as vice chair of the Leadership Academy of Nevada’s executive committee. The academy is an online charter high school. Jones specializes in real estate and finance law.

    • The International Academy of Design and Technology Las Vegas appointed three new members to its audio production department advisory committee. They are James Elizondo, operations manager and lead engineer at Hall Audio Production; Will Brierre, assistant engineer and mixer at M.A.N. Entertainment; and Jason Cropper, of Vintage King Audio.

    • Nicholas Vogelzang

      Nicholas Vogelzang

      Nicholas Vogelzang, an oncologist with the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada, was named the 2013 Laureate Award winner by the Nevada chapter of the American College of Physicians. The award honors college fellows who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in medical care and education and service to the community.

    • Paige Candee

      Paige Candee

      Paige Candee is president of public relations at 10e Media. She has more than a decade of experience and will handle media relations, message development, special event planning, brand marketing and community relations. Candee also founded Dress for Success Southern Nevada, a nonprofit group that helps disadvantaged women become self-sufficient.

    • John Cannito

      John Cannito

      John Cannito was promoted to chief operating officer of the Penta Building Group. He joined Penta in 2004 as director of corporate services and was promoted to vice president of finance and corporate services in 2008. Cannito has more than 20 years of commercial construction experience, is LEED accredited and is certified as a construction industry financial professional.

    • Diane Smith

      Diane Smith

      Diane Smith, vice president of clinical operations at Nathan Adelson Hospice, was appointed to a three-year term on the HealthInsight Nevada board of directors. Smith, an adjunct professor at UNLV, has more than 28 years of experience in health care. HealthInsight is a nonprofit group dedicated to improving health and health care.

    • Sunrise Hospital is the first in Las Vegas to use the Linx System to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease. Dr. Shawn T. Tsuda is the first Linx-trained surgeon in Southern Nevada. The system uses a small, flexible band of magnets to keep weak esophageal sphincters closed.

    • Matt Van Note

      Matt Van Note

      Matt Van Note, project developer at Bombard Renewable Energy, has been certified as a photovoltaic technical sales professional by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners.

    • Vince Casas, campus chair of technology for the International Academy of Design and Technology, is a finalist for the Career Education Corp.’s academic leadership “Educator of the Year” award. Casas is a professional songwriter and musician.

    • Caleb Zobrist

      Caleb Zobrist

      Caleb Zobrist is managing attorney for the bankruptcy department at Half Price Lawyers. Zobrist has more than five years experience in bankruptcy law and previously owned Zobrist Law LLC.

    • Victoria Soares is director of marketing and communications for Spread the Word Nevada, which works to advance early child­hood lit­er­acy. She has more than 16 years of experience in marketing and communications. Spread the Word also moved to 1075 American Pacific Drive, Suite B, Henderson. The new location includes a warehouse with more room for storage, book cleaning and events.

    • Carolyn Sparks is chairman of Trustar Corp., the parent company of Nevada Trust Company. She has been a board member for Trustar and Nevada Trust for more than three years. Sparks is president and co-owner of International Insurance Services, an insurance adjustment company.

    • Amelia Gulling, GreenPower program administrator for the Desert Research Institute, received the Friend of Science award from the Southern Nevada Science Teachers’ Association.

    • Tom Fay is deputy director of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District. He previously served as executive director of the Henderson Libraries.

    • Dr. Keith Brill is the incoming president of the Clark County Medical Society. He succeeds Dr. George Alexander. Brill works at WellHealth Women’s Specialty Care in the Spring Valley Medical Center. The medical society also awarded several honors during its 59th annual Presidential Installation Dinner. Winners included Ellia Ciammaichella, of Touro University, Student Rising Star award; Zareen Choudhury, of the University of Nevada School of Medicine, Student Rising Star award; and Dr. Joseph Hardy, Harold Lee Feikes, M.D. Memorial Award for outstanding community service.
