Taxicab Authority approves extra cabs for Super Bowl weekend

The Nevada Taxicab Authority had in its monthly meeting in Las Vegas today.
The issue: Taxi companies requested the issuance of additional licenses for more cabs in the city’s streets for Super Bowl weekend.
The vote: 4-0
What it means: Clark County’s 16 cab companies were authorized to operate four additional cabs the Friday and Saturday before Sunday’s game. That means potentially 64 additional cabs to serve an estimated crowd of 285,000 people.

The issue: Taxi companies requested the issuance of additional cabs for the Men’s Apparel Guild in California fashion convention Feb. 18-21.
The vote: 4-0
What it means: Clark County’s 16 cab companies were authorized to operate an additional six cabs over split shifts, meaning a potential 96 cabs on the streets during MAGIC, which is expected to attract 80,000 people this year.

The issue: Frias Transportation Infrastructure asked the board to approve a pilot program that would allow it to install its RideIntegrity software program to monitor taxi movements in the city as a regulatory tool.
The proposal would test the system on at least 150 vehicles. Most other companies were uncomfortable with testing the system on vehicles used by the riding public. The board compromised by establishing a working group to move toward a live public test.
The vote: 4-0
What it means: A working group will be formed to move toward a pilot program once operating parameters for the study are set.
