Three Las Vegas-area communities in top 15 for home sales

Meritage Homes unveiled its Extreme Green homes at the master-planned community Providence in Las Vegas with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, March 11, 2011.

Three Las Vegas Valley master-planned communities were in the top 15 nationwide for sales last year, research reports say.

The 3,500-acre Mountain’s Edge project in the southwest valley had 948 home sales in 2012, fifth-best in the country. That was more than double its 434 sales the year before when it ranked No. 7, according to separate reports from Bethesda, Md.-based RCLCO and John Burns Real Estate Consulting in Irvine, Calif.

The 1,200-acre Providence community in northwest Las Vegas took No. 6 last year with 760 home sales. That’s up 81 percent from 421 sales in 2011, when both reports ranked the project No. 8.

Also in the top 15 was the 22,500-acre Summerlin community, which runs along the west side of the valley. Summerlin had 471 home sales last year, more than double its 2011 tally of 221.

RCLCO ranked Summerlin No. 12 in the country last year, up from No. 25 in 2011. John Burns put the community at No. 14 last year, up from No. 30.

Las Vegas-based Focus Property Group is developing Mountain’s Edge and Providence. Dallas-based Howard Hughes Corp. is developing Summerlin.

Across the valley, 44,902 homes were sold last year. That was down 7 percent from 2011 but still the third highest since 2000, according to the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors.
