Harmonize an office with simple fixes

You don’t need to hire a feng shui master to improve harmony in your workplace. A few simple design changes can quickly increase the energy flow, feng shui experts say.

Here are some tips for what to do and what to avoid in an office:

• Hang a mirror to disperse negative energy.

• Place a crystal ball on top of your phone to encourage business calls.

• Sit with a wall behind your back — never a window — to ensure support in your life.

• Avoid cactuses and other sharp plants. Choose bamboo instead.

• Don’t place a photocopier near a main door. The heat will cause good energy to disperse.

• Don’t place a paper cutter next to a main door. It will cause workers to fight and backstab each other.

• Don’t place an empty vase next to a main door. It will suck in good energy that enters the office.

• Set up an indoor fountain to circulate good energy.

• Place a hanging crystal in your window. It will activate good chi when the sun hits it.

• Place a dragon on the right side of your desk facing a window or door if you want to be an industry leader.

• Don’t allow the door of your office to open toward your desk. It will cause you problems and inhibit good luck.

• Avoid rooms with two doors because good energy will flow in through one door and leave through the other.

• If your staff is often sick, hang a metal wind chime with six or seven 1-foot-long rods. The sound of metal is an effective feng shui cure. Place a hanging crystal sphere over it to increase its power.

• Avoid having the main entrance of your office lead to an inside wall. Good energy that enters through the door will hit the wall, causing businesses to slow.

• Place a three-legged toad god figurine near your company’s entrance, facing into your office to magnify luck and wealth. Always leave the coin in its mouth.

• Buy a pair of Fu Dog figurines — a male and female — to place near the doorway of your office. The animals protect from evil influences and symbolize valor and prosperity.
