The parent company of convention industry supplier Global Experience Specialists reported increases in revenue and earnings today, and a recent Las Vegas show had a lot to do with it.

Phoenix-based Viad Corp posted earnings of $20 million, 99 cents a share, on revenue of $307.5 million for the third quarter that ended Sept. 30. That compares with earnings of $1.2 million, 6 cents a share, on revenue of $216.2 million for the same period a year ago.

Viad officials said positive non-annual show rotation — the presentation of events this year that weren’t on last year’s calendar — were mostly responsible for the increases.

Las Vegas-based GES staged MINExpo, a show that occurs once every four years, at the Las Vegas Convention Center in September. The event is one of the largest by exhibit space and drew about 50,000 people in the mining industry to the city.

Viad’s international group capitalized on another event that occurs once every four years, the Olympic Games. The company managed gatherings associated with the 2012 London Games and the Paralympic Games in July, August and September.
