    • The Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada has received special recognition for outstanding clinical research. The NevBio Award for Biotechnology and Health Science Achievement is the only award presented in Nevada that specifically recognizes achievements in health science. The Comprehensive Cancer Centers received the award because of researchers’ extensive work with clinical trials. CCCN physicians conduct more than 170 clinical research studies a year and have helped develop 43 FDA-approved cancer therapies.

    • Faith Lutheran Middle School and High School has finished installing 4,541 solar panels on its 39-acre property in Summerlin Centre. The project, one of Nevada’s largest solar projects, will save the school more than $140,000 in yearly energy costs. The school now generates more than 1.1 million watts of solar power, enough to power 125 homes. The solar PV system was installed by Bombard Renewable Energy and funded through NV Energy rebates and the Federal Renewable Energy Investment Tax Credit. There was no cost to the school.

    • Nevada JobConnect recently was honored by the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada for its efforts in supporting economic development initiatives in the Reno-Sparks-Tahoe area. JobConnect received a Community Partner Award. It was among several groups honored at the inaugural Greater Reno-Sparks-TahoeExisting Industry Awards reception hosted by EDAWN.

    • Las Vegas technology company Datanamics Inc. has renewed its Advanced Collaboration Architecture Specialization from Cisco Systems Inc., which recognizes that Datanamics has fulfilled the training requirements to sell, design and deploy comprehensive Cisco Collaboration Architecture solutions.

    • Sierra Strategies has been retained by the Nevada Mineral Exploration Coalition to represent the coalition’s public policy interests in Nevada.

    • Trosper Communications, a public relations and advertising firm, has moved to 2275 Corporate Circle, Suite 275, Henderson.

    • Scheme Events, a Las Vegas wedding and event planning company, was named Best Wedding Planners of Las Vegas for 2012 by Wedding Industry Experts.

    • Respect Your Universe announced the opening of its first flagship retail store at the Shoppes at the Palazzo.

    • Toll Brothers Inc., a luxury home builder, was named 2012 Builder of the Year by Professional Builder magazine. Toll Brothers is the first builder to win the honor twice. It previously was named Builder of the Year in 1988.

    • Qua Baths and Spa at Caesars Palace has been honored by SpaFinder Inc. for the sixth consecutive year. The spa was named among the top 10 in the world in the following categories: Best Casino Hotel Spa, Best Interior Design, Best for Men and Best for Romance.

    • Nevada Public Radio received the Crystal Bookmark, an award given to an organization that has advanced literacy and literature in the valley, at the Vegas Valley Book Festival.

    • Bank of America awarded $96,000 in grants to five Las Vegas nonprofits: Community Services of Nevada, Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Southern Nevada, Habitat for Humanity, Lied Discovery Children’s Museum and the Women’s Development Center. The money will be used to prepare people for future home ownership.

    • WinTech, a Las Vegas technology company, donated an ALICE virtual receptionist system to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada. ALICE, an acronym for All Live Interactive Customer Experience, is a virtual receptionist system that greets visitors and connects them with employees.

    • Caesars Entertainment employees recently donated 20,000 school supplies to more than 1,000 local students. The company matched the donation. Additionally, Caesars Entertainment and HERO, the company’s employee community outreach team, donated 1,200 book sets, compliments of Books are Fun, and 1,200 backpacks to local children.

    • The 14th annual AGEM/AGA Golf Classic presented by JCM Global raised $133,000, a single-year record, for the National Center for Responsible Gaming, a national nonprofit that funds research on gambling disorders and works to increase awareness about responsible gaming.

    • Members of City National Bank’s senior leadership team painted a large mural on the front entrance of Helen Jydstrup Elementary School in Las Vegas. The mural depicts the importance of education and literacy and memorializes a student who died this past school year.

    • The Office Depot Foundation donated 4,000 new backpacks filled with school supplies to children served by a variety of nonprofit organizations, schools and agencies in Las Vegas.

    • Employees of Cox Communications in Las Vegas donated back-to-school items to Olive Crest to support the organization’s children and teens in foster care, as well as their foster families.

    • The Nevada Professional Facility Managers Association presented the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation a check for $8,000, money raised during the group’s annual golf tournament at Primm Valley Golf Club. The foundation aims to provide new shoes and socks to 10,000 disadvantaged Southern Nevada children annually.

    • During the second quarter of 2012, the NV Energy Foundation contributed more than $1.2 million to organizations statewide. Grants were given to the UNLV Foundation, Three Square, Nevada Ballet Theatre, United Way of Southern Nevada and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas.

    • The Windsong Trust donated $1 million to the Discovery Children’s Museum in Symphony Park in downtown Las Vegas. The gift will support the museum’s 20-year-old Youthworks Program, which helps teens from low-income families stay in school and graduate.

    • Allegiant Airlines has named Make-A-Wish its primary charity and will help grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.

    • CSI: The Experience at the MGM Grand donated copies of the “CLUB CSI” book series to the Hard Rock Cafe’s “Rock the Cause” movement, which supports charities in Southern Nevada.

    • Communities In Schools of Nevada partnered with Walmart and Sam’s Club to collect school supplies for 150 fourth- and fifth-grade students at Reynaldo Martinez Elementary School. This is the fourth consecutive year they have partnered on the project.
