Gaming Commission to consider candidate for executive secretary post

The state’s two gaming regulatory boards are close to getting a new executive secretary.

Sally Elloyan, who has served in several capacities within the Gaming Control Board as well as in the industry, was recommended Wednesday for the position in a unanimous Control Board vote.

The recommendation is expected to be considered by the Nevada Gaming Commission on May 17.

Elloyan started with the board in 1988 as an agent in the Investigations Division, advancing to become administrative supervisor of the division. She left the board between 2003 and 2008 and held various other positions in state government, including branch auditor for the Division of Internal Audits as well as the deputy commissioner for the Division of Insurance.

She also worked for Sierra Design Group and Bally Technologies, returning to the Control Board to be coordinator of Applicant Services.

“We had a number of very qualified candidates, but in my opinion, Sally is the most qualified person at this time,” said Control Board Chairman Mark Lipparelli.

Lipparelli and Gaming Commission Chairman Peter Bernhard considered applicants along with a committee that included current Executive Secretary Brian Duffrin.

Duffrin recently was promoted to head the Control Board’s Administrative Division.
