Las Vegas records 4.3 percent increase in July visitors

July brought Las Vegas its 17th straight month of visitation and room rate gains, according to numbers released today.

The number of visitors for July increased by 4.3 percent from 3.3 million in 2010 to nearly 3.5 million in 2011, according to a monthly report from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Room rates for the month increased 9.9 percent from $90 last year to $99 in July of this year.

Citywide occupancy rates also increased during the past year, from 84 percent to 88.3 percent.

Convention attendance during the year-over-year period slumped 17.9 percent, while the number of meetings held during July increased 30.2 percent.

Passenger traffic at McCarran International Airport was up 4.9 percent during the year-over-year period while traffic at the Nevada/California line was up 0.7 percent.

Visitation in Laughlin fell 3.6 percent from July 2010 to July 2011 while it decreased by 0.8 percent in Mesquite.
