Michael Santos

Michael Santos is the new chief operating officer of the Micatrotto Restaurant Group, franchise operator of six Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers locations in Nevada and Arizona. He previously was Micatrotto’s vice president of operations and human resources.

James Westrin and Scott Kipper

James E. Westrin is the new commissioner of mortgage lending and Scott Kipper is the new insurance commissioner for the state of Nevada. Westrin previously worked in the Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation for the state of Michigan. Kipper, who was Nevada’s insurance commissioner from December 2008 to June 2010, most recently was deputy commissioner in charge of the Office of Health Insurance for the Louisiana Department of Insurance and CEO of the state of Louisiana Office of Group Benefits. The two were appointed by Nevada State Director of Business & Industry Terry Johnson.

Heather Broneske

Heather Broneske has joined Solotech US Corp. as a sales account manager. She has previously worked in commercial audio-video sales in southern Nevada. Solotech provides an array of equipment and services for the hospitality, worship, education and entertainment industries.

John Swendseid

John O. Swendseid

John O. Swendseid has been appointed Chair of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation’s Committee on Tax Exempt Financing. The committee addresses issues related to the federal exclusion from gross income of interest on state and local bonds as well as issues related to tax credit bonds. Swendseid and Jennifer Stern lead the Las Vegas and Reno law offices of Swendseid & Stern. Both were recently named Best Lawyers in the area of Public Finance Law by The Best Lawyers in America, a publication for the legal profession.

Maria Toto

Maria Toto has joined Fennemore Craig’s Las Vegas law office as an associate in commercial litigation. She previously was an associate with Murchison & Cumming, LLP, in Las Vegas.

Sarah Thornton

Sarah Thornton was named Public Relations Principal of the Year at the annual Electronic Media Awards Oct. 21. A 16-year veteran of the Las Vegas public relations and marketing industry, she is the founder and president of Sarah Thornton Public Relations. The awards recognize outstanding achievements in locally produced communications.

John Archibald

John Archibald is the new general manager for Platinum Hotel and Spa. Archibald will direct all hotel, spa and food and beverage operations for the property. During his 18 years with Marcus Hotels + Resorts for 18 years, he has served as manager of six different company operations.

Thoran Towler

Thoran Towler has been named Nevada labor commissioner, a position based in Carson City. The position functions under the Nevada Department of Business & Industry and has regulatory authority over wage and hour and child labor laws, as well as wage rates for public works projects, among other responsibilities. Towler is an attorney who most recently worked in the Nevada Attorney General’s Office.

Garry Cuff

Garry Cuff

Garry Cuff was recently honored as the only Nevadan to earn a 2011 Commercial National Award from the National Association of Realtors. Cuff, a past president of the Commercial Alliance Las Vegas, is a commercial real estate broker at Colliers International, specializing in the multi-family housing market and in real estate investments. The national award recognizes members who demonstrate professional excellence in the commercial real estate industry.

Mike Hillis

Mike Hillis has been appointed vice president of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors. He is managing partner of Commerce Real Estate Solutions-Cushman & Wakefield in Las Vegas. An SIOR member since 2001, he has more than 30 years of commercial real estate experience specializing in investment and industrial transactions.

Joanna M. Myers

Joanna M. Myers has joined the law firm of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck as an associate with the corporate and business group. Her practice focuses on intellectual property.

Jonathan Blum and William D. Schuller

Attorneys Jonathan Blum and William D. Schuller have joined Kolesar and Leatham, a Las Vegas-based business law firm. They will focus their practice in commercial litigation.

Georgeann Pizzi

Georgeann Pizzi has been appointed to account supervisor of the corporate communications division of MassMedia agency. She joined MassMedia in 2009 as an assistant account executive and was named an account executive in 2010.
