The owner of the Marie Callender’s restaurant and bakery chain filed for bankruptcy protection on Monday and said one of its Southern Nevada locations had closed.

Perkins & Marie Callender’s Inc. filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware.

The Memphis-based company, with nearly 600 company-owned and franchised restaurants in North America, said it has closed 65 company-owned locations as part of the restructuring.

The only Las Vegas-area location on the closure list is a Marie Callender’s at 4875 W. Flamingo Road. The company has five more locations in Las Vegas and Henderson, according to its website.

A location in Reno was also on the closure list.

In its bankruptcy filing listing assets of $290 million against liabilities of nearly $441 million, the company cited struggles with high unemployment and foreclosures in key markets – as well as its leveraged position that left it unable to modernize some locations.
