Foreclosure filings during the first six months of 2011 fell 17 percent from the same comparison a year ago and even fell by a similar amount from the second half of 2010, according to a California research firm.
RealtyTrac said Nevada retained its No. 1 ranking in the nation with 53,217 foreclosure filings from January through June, which represents one for every 21 households. Arizona was second with one filing for every 36 households. California was third, followed by Utah.
Overall, foreclosure filings fell 29 percent in the nation as a whole from the first half of 2010. RealtyTrac attributes that to processing delays rather than improvements in the economy.
In June, Nevada’s foreclosure filings fell 9 percent from May and 22 percent from June 2010.
There were 3,223 notices of default filed, and 3,540 homes were repossessed in May in Nevada.
