Downtown Swingers Club hopes mix of mini-golf, bar scene a hole in one

Golf and beer are like peas and carrots. Find a course, and it’s a sure bet you’ll see at least a couple golfers with cold ones in hand.

But what about the reverse: a barfly clutching a putter? Or a bartender shouting “hole-in-one”?

That’s a scene strictly for Vegas.

A new bar slated to open next month in the renovated Plaza will feature a nine-hole, indoor miniature golf course as its centerpiece. Patrons can pound a shot of Patron at the Swingers Club, then try for a birdie through Vegas-themed memorabilia and props.

The putt-putt course will wrap around the bar and fill out the venue. Owner/manager Anthony Cools, a local hypnotist and show producer, jokes that he wants to put some extra “swing” into the downtown scene.

The club, which will be limited to customers 21 or older, will feature dueling pianos. Instead of being perched on a stage, they’ll sit on the bar floor to encourage audience members to sing along, request songs and mingle with the players.

“This isn’t an ultraclub with high-priced bottle service,” Cools said. “Our goal was to create an inviting atmosphere where people can relax and just have fun.”

The Swingers Club goes live Aug. 24 with a soft opening to coincide with the casino’s debut. Both venues will host grand openings Labor Day weekend.

The bar and golf course will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, with live music from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and dueling pianos from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. After 2 a.m., a DJ will spin music and the golf course will transition to a glow-in-the-dark disco golf course.
