MassMedia Corporate Communications earned nine awards, including three Pinnacle Awards, from the Las Vegas Valley Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. The annual PRSA awards recognize top achievements in public relations strategies, tactics and professionals.

Vegas PBS has been selected as one of 11 public television stations nationally that will serve as a demonstration site to test math and literacy content developed through the U.S. Department of Education’s Ready To Learn grant. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting and PBS will be partners in the initiative, which will develop content across platforms, including video, online games, mobile apps and off-line activities, with a goal of using PBS KIDS characters to create an educational experience for children.

The Colosseum at Caesars Palace was named Top Venue Under 5,000 seats by the recent 2011 Billboard Touring Awards. The annual award was based on global box office numbers reported to Billboard Boxscore from Oct. 1, 2010, through Sept. 30, 2011. The Colosseum has won the award six consecutive years.

Vdara Hotel & Spa has received the 2012 Four-Star Award from Forbes Travel Guide, its first such rating. It is one of only 177 hotels to earn the honor from Forbes, formerly known as Mobil Travel Guide.

The Cosmopolitan has been recognized as a 2011 Fodor’s 100 Hotels selection in its “new and worthy” category. The selection cited the hotel for its service and accommodations.

A Nov. 8 ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the completion of the Veteran Affairs’ Consolidated Patient Account Center by Harsch Investment Properties-Nevada, LLC. The $8 million redevelopment project at the 100,000-square-foot Paradise Airport Center will create an estimated 400 new jobs. The balance of the building’s space is designed for other medium-size businesses.

Las Vegas has the first government agency in southern Nevada offering applications for a business license online. Interested parties can go to the city’s website at www.lasvegasnevada.gov. The site also can process application fees and license renewals.

MGM Resorts International has won an award from the Environmental Protection Agency for its achievements in food waste recycling programs in Las Vegas. The company will receive the 2011 WasteWise Gold Achievement-Food Recovery Award as part of the agency’s annual competition, which recognizes public and private entities for their environmental sustainability efforts. During 2010, MGM Resorts International recycled 8,722 tons of food waste. Criteria for the award included food recovery policies, quantity of food waste prevented or reduced, the amount of food donated or reused, the quantity composted and the scope of food recovery initiatives implemented.
