If you and your kids have to be stuck in an airport for a while, McCarran is a good place to be

A sculpture titled “Desert Sunrise” by Rob Fisher Sculpture, LLC is seen during a preview of McCarran’s new Terminal 3 Saturday, June 2, 2012.

A subsidiary of traveladvisor.com has listed McCarran International Airport among the top 10 U.S. airports for layovers with children.

FlipKey, which rates vacation rental properties, cited an unsupervised children’s play area in the airport’s D gates and vintage aircraft displayed in the main terminal.

“The Las Vegas airport has also appeared in many Hollywood movies, so you can entertain the family by finding spots where famous scenes from ‘Up in the Air,’ ‘Ocean’s 13’ and ‘Rush Hour’ were filmed,” FlipKey writers said.

They acknowledged the airport’s 1,200 slot machines but added that McCarran “is a classy place that’s comfortable for multiple generations.”

FlipKey overlooked art created by Clark County students that hangs in some of the terminal tram stations.

Other kid-friendly airports that made the list included O’Hare International (Chicago), Logan (Boston), Sky Harbor (Phoenix), Hartsfield Jackson (Atlanta), Sea-Tac (Seattle), San Francisco, Dallas-Fort Worth, Minneapolis-St. Paul and Nashville.
