For the third consecutive year, Dollar Loan Center CEO Chuck Brennan donated $15,000 to Opportunity Village from the company’s annual Heat Is On summer promotion. Dollar Loan Center pledged $100 to the charity for every day the temperature in Southern Nevada was 100 degrees or more. The valley recorded 81 days of 100-plus degree temperatures this year, but the company continued its tradition of rounding its commitment up to $15,000.
Big Lots District Manager David Nielsen presented a $2,500 check to Dean Allen Elementary School during a store opening at Centennial Gateway.
Eight uninsured Nevadans received free surgeries from Helping Hands Surgical Care, which funds and facilitates surgeries for uninsured and underinsured Nevadans. The nonprofit was founded by Dr. Kevin Petersen and his wife, Kelly Petersen. The staff at Valley View Surgery Center provided assistance.
The Shane Victorino Foundation, which helps underserved children, collected toys for the Shade Tree Shelter, Matthew’s Closet and Toys for Tots, all in Las Vegas. IGT also presented the foundation with a check for $5,000.
The Nevada State Development Corporation donated $1,255 to The Adoption Exchange during its annual Monopoly Tournament fundraiser. The Adoption Exchange connects local foster children with adoptive families. More than 1,100 children are in Nevada foster care. Evan Dickson, an assistant vice president/business development officer at the NSDC, won the tournament.
The Salvation Army of Southern Nevada distributed 1,500 coats at its Family Services Ministries Office. The coats were gathered under the direction of Harriet Bernard for the 13th year. Albertson’s and Tropical Smoothie Cafes served as collection sites, while Aramark Uniforms delivered the coats to Al Phillips — The Cleaner, which dry cleaned them.
