    • Representatives of the Nellis Support Team presented a $24,880 check to Operation Warmheart for its “Adopt-A-Family” program, which provides food and toys to needy military families at Nellis and Creech Air Force Bases during the holidays.

    • Circus Couture presented “Possession(s),” a performance, fashion and art event at the Joint at the Hard Rock to benefit the Children’s Specialty Center of Nevada, the state’s only nonprofit outpatient clinic treating kids with cancer regardless of insurance.

    • Vegas Valley Baseball raised nearly $4,300 from selling wristbands and umpire caps during the October Slugfest tournament. A check was presented to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer organization.

    • Employees of Cox Communications delivered a ton of canned and non-perishable food items gathered during a company food drive to the Salvation Army’s Family Services.

    • Desert Call Connection, a customer service company, hosted a “Pancakes and Pajamas” day benefiting StandUp For Kids, a nonprofit organization that works end youth homelessness. The company donated a sleeping bag, pajamas and other necessities for every employee who came to work in pajamas.

    • MassMedia Corporate Communications, a public relations, advertising and marketing firm in Henderson, received 19,584 nonperishable food items during its annual Thanksgiving food drive to benefit Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. It was the largest contribution to Catholic Charities this year. Dozens of local businesses, organizations and community members contributed food items and funds to during the three-week competitive food drive.

    • UNLV athletics and SuperPawn teamed up again with the Clark County School District to bring 6,500 fourth- and fifth-grade students from 32 schools to the Thomas & Mack Center for the “Rebel Reading Challenge” kickoff celebration. Classes competed to see which read the most pages. The winning classes won a trip to a UNLV men’s basketball game and other prizes. Last year, “Rebel Reading” students read 2,393,660 pages.

    • United Blood Services of Las Vegas offered donors a voucher for buy-one-get-one-free admission to Legends in Concert at the Flamingo in November. Donors also received two free admissions to the 2014 Motor Trend International Car Show.

    • The Nevada State Contractors Board’s Commission on Construction Education awarded more than $170,000 to nonprofit agencies, schools and programs for educational endeavors for students and young professionals. The largest grant — $43,000 — went to Reno’s Academy for Construction Education to start a program in which advanced high school students will build small houses to be sold at auction. The Associated General Contractors received $40,800 to continue its industry-training program. The commission also allocated $28,229 to AGC to purchase construction textbooks for Clark County schools. The UNLV Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction received $41,000 to equip a teaching lab for engineering and construction management students; local organizers of the Future Cities competition received $15,000; and Desert Research Institute received $10,500 for its Renewable Energy Deployment and Display Facility.

    • Grimaldi’s Pizzeria’s five Las Vegas locations hosted a toy drive to benefit Shade Tree. Shade Tree aims to improve the lives of women, children and pets affected by domestic violence.

    • Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco awarded local nonprofit organizations and Nevada State Bank community partners Street Teens and the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority grants totaling $40,000. Nevada State Bank will administer the funds. Street Teens received $30,000 to support operational funding. The housing authority received $10,000 to launch its FORWARD program for youths.

    • Forever Resorts’ Callville Bay Resort and Marina, the National Park Service, Nevada Beverage, Outside Las Vegas Foundation, Get Outdoors Nevada, REI and Anheuser-Busch partnered for an annual beach cleanup day. More than 200 volunteers participated and more than 50 cubic yards of debris was collected. More than 21,000 pounds of debris has been collected over the past five cleanup days at Callville Bay.

    • Nearly $5,000 was raised at Jackson’s Bar and Grill to help families affected by a typhoon in November in the Phillipines. The local Sagip Kapamilya Foundation of the Las Vegas Filipino community organized the fundraiser.

    • High 5 Games donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross to help typhoon victims.

    • Win-Win Entertainment, a nonprofit organization that pairs performers with charity events, celebrated its second annual fundraiser show, “Headliners Bash.”

    • Krispy Kreme held a toy drive in December to support Toys for Tots. Supporters received a glazed doughnut for every toy donated. Toys were delivered to 98.5 KLUC’s Chet Buchanan and the Morning Zoo’s 15th annual toy drive.

    • America First Credit Union is hosting a skip-a-loan-payment program in which members may skip one monthly loan payment in January for $25. America First will donate a portion of the fee to purchase shoes for children. America First also collected cash donations from its members and the community.

    • Goodwill of Southern Nevada is building a retail store and drive-thru donation center at 7420 S. Rainbow Blvd. in Las Vegas. The store will be the 13th Goodwill retail location in Southern Nevada. It is slated to open in spring and will create nearly 40 jobs.

    • The Clark County School District’s Virtual High School and Academy for Individualized Study held a “Laptops for Learning Holiday Drive” to collect free computers for students. Donations were refurbished and wiped clean by staff at U.S. Micro Corp.

    • TruFusion, a new fitness boutique, hosted a toy drive to benefit Aid for AIDS of Nevada. The rally was held around a “Tru Sweat-a-thon” that featured 24 hours of continuous classes.

    • City National Bank partnered with Barnes & Noble for a multistate book drive to benefit schools in Nevada, California, New York, Nashville and Atlanta. It was the sixth consecutive year that the two partnered. City National’s “Reading is the Way Up” literacy program matched each book donated, up to $75,000. The books will be distributed to schools this year.

    • Employees and executive staff from Wynn and Encore Las Vegas provided gifts for nearly 4,000 After-School All-Stars Las Vegas students at several Clark County elementary schools. The Wynn/Encore Employee Services Department coordinated efforts to donate, collect, wrap and distribute toys to underprivileged children in an annual tradition since Wynn Las Vegas opened in 2005. Students at Rex Bell, Wynn, Roundy, Lunt and Martinez elementary schools benefited.
