    • The Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce will make the Smith Center for the Performing Arts its new permanent home. It will be located on the ground floor space of the Boman Pavilion, home of Cabaret Jazz theatre. The move will take place in 2014, once office renovations are completed.

    • Newwave, a gaming software supplier, installed its Check Prove software at the Palms and all Station Casinos properties in Nevada. The program helps casinos safeguard against payroll check-cashing fraud.

    • Bally Technologies will supply systems and interactive solutions to the SLS. Formerly the Sahara, the SLS is scheduled to open in the fall with more than 1,600 guest rooms, 800 gaming machines and 80 table games.

    • The International Tourism Safety Association, the Las Vegas Security Chiefs Association and ISC West have agreed to co-locate their events in one venue in 2014. The International Tourism Safety Conference and ISC West will be held during the first week in April at the Sands Expo Convention Center.

    • Cox Communications — Las Vegas will participate in Lifeline, a government benefit program that provides discounts on monthly telephone service for eligible low-income consumers. Cox Lifeline Service provides eligible consumers basic telephone service for $3.50 per month.

    • Vegas PBS was awarded $89,539 by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to expand emergency alert and communications services in the community.

    • National Healthcare Access Inc., a provider of individual and employer-based benefit plans with offices in Las Vegas, San Diego and Youngstown, Ohio, has acquired two established insurance firms in Nevada: KIA Insurance Agency and Harrison Insurance Agency.

    • Lamar Advertising Co. has signed a five-year transit advertising agreement with Sun Tran. Under the new contract, Lamar will sell exterior and interior ad displays on Sun Tran’s bus fleet in Tucson, Ariz.

    • Several local casinos and companies were recognized as part of the 20th annual World Travel Awards, voted on by travel agents worldwide. Local honorees were: MGM Grand, world’s leading casino resort; Bellagio, North America’s leading casino resort; Caesars Palace, United States’ leading casino resort; Las Vegas Convention Center, North America’s leading meeting and conference center. Las Vegas was also recognized as the world’s and North America’s leading meeting and conference destination as well as North America’s leading destination.

    • The Palms and Kirvin Doak Communications public relations team received two PR Daily Media Relations awards for work on the Palms renovation campaign. They were honored in two categories — Best Website and Best Media Relations Campaign Under $25,000.
