    • MDL Group donated more than 4,000 pounds of food items to Three Square Food Bank as part of a combined food drive with Gatski Commercial, CBRE and Thomas & Mack Development Group.

    • City National Bank employees and their families helped fill food baskets for needy families for the holidays as part of Three Square’s food rescue program. City National also donated $2,500 to Three Square as part of its volunteer effort, which will provide low-income families in Southern Nevada with 7,500 meals.

    • “Downtown Cares,” a day of volunteerism, was held this year to help “green” Veterans Village. The village is a transitional housing unit for men, women and families whose lives have been affected by a veteran. Volunteers helped plant flowers and trees, build park benches, clean the grounds and collect food and toiletries for the residents. “Downtown Cares” is a community day of service led by Moonridge Group and El Cortez, with support from dozens of downtown businesses and friends.

    • Clark County firefighters and Local 1908 raised $12,000 as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness month. The money was donated to local charities fighting cancer in Southern Nevada including Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Southern Nevada. The firefighters raised money by wearing and selling special T-shirts across the county.

    • Presto Neighborhood Café is hosting a holiday fundraiser for the Shade Tree women, children and pet shelter. Presto Café will donate 20 percent of all profits from dinner sales through Dec. 31. Customers can also drop off donations and gifts there for Shade Tree.

    • CenturyLink is offering $35,000 in grants for local teachers through its Clarke M. Williams Foundation Teachers and Technology grant program. The application process is open through Jan. 10 for teachers looking to implement technology in their classrooms to increase student achievement. All teachers working in public or private schools can apply for a grant, and all applications will be reviewed by a panel of local technology professionals.     • Ace World Wide Moving and Storage received the Move for Hunger’s 2013 Atlas Van Lines Mover of the Year award. The honor distinguishes the top participating Atlas Van Lines agency for its efforts to prevent hunger in its community. To date, Ace has collected more than 4,200 pounds of non-perishable food for the Las Vegas area.

    • Wells Fargo & Co. employees donated a record $89 million to community nonprofits in 2013, including $64.9 million pledged during the company’s annual Community Support and United Way Campaign. In addition, employees recorded 315,000 volunteer hours during the campaign, up from 223,000 last year. Wells Fargo also matches donations to qualifying schools, up to $5,000 per team member.

    • Guns and Ammo Garage, an indoor shooting range, donated $18,158 to Special Olympics Nevada. It also sponsored the 2013 PBR Charity Golf Classic.

    • SuperPawn marked the reopening of its location at 1100 W. Sunset Road in Henderson with a donation to First Tee of Southern Nevada, a nonprofit that teaches golf and life skills to more than 55,000 at-risk youths. SuperPawn invested more than $300,000 to upgrade the store.

    • The NV Energy Foundation contributed $551,500, including a multiyear commitment, to 23 nonprofit organizations statewide during the third quarter of 2013. Southern Nevada nonprofits receiving grants included the Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross, Nevada State College Foundation, Teach for America, UNLV Foundation (for the Solar Decathlon), I Have a Dream Foundation, Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada, Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association, Spread the Word Nevada, Anti-Defamation League, Green Chips, Green Our Planet, Outside Las Vegas and United Way of Southern Nevada. The NV Energy Foundation is funded by the shareholders of NV Energy.

    • Underprivileged children and families from local nonprofit organizations — After-School All-Stars Las Vegas, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada — received complimentary Thanksgiving dinners at the 23rd annual Turkey Gobble at Piero’s Italian Cuisine. Piero’s chefs and employees prepared about 350 pounds of turkey, 900 pounds of potatoes, 1,500 rolls, 200 pies and more for 1,100 special guests. The meal was served by dozens of the restaurant’s patrons.

    • MGM Resorts Foundation provided a $65,000 grant to After-School All-Stars Las Vegas to be used to support “What’s Cool After-School,” a program that provides free, comprehensive after-school academic and enrichment programs for at-risk Clark County School District middle school students. MGM Resorts International employees have pledged $4.7 million this year, and the MGM Resorts Foundation has raised more than $54 million and supported more than 2,000 charitable organizations since its inception in 2002.

    • Barrick Gold donated $1 million to Opportunity Village at the annual Camelot Gala at Magical Forest. The gift will fund construction of a residential facility for adults with intellectual disabilities.

    • Southwest Gas employees committed more than $1.17 million to local charities as part of a monthlong giving campaign, Fuel For Life. The money helps charity partners in Southwest’s service areas in Nevada, Arizona and California, including 10 in Las Vegas.

    • MGM Resorts International employees participated in the largest-ever employee-donated canned food drive in Nevada. Three Square Food Bank reported that 922,161 pounds of food was donated.
