If you attend, they will apply.
That's the thinking of recruiters from Bally Technologies as they prepare to hop on a plane this week and zip to the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
That's where the company – which makes slot machines and casino management systems – hopes to snag "world-class" talent to fill more than 70 vacant high-tech positions.
While the tech positions have been listed on Bally's online careers page for quite some time, company officials say qualified applicants are hard to find these days.
"The challenges are volume and quality," said Gary Kapral, Bally's senior vice president of operations and human resources. "We can't get enough from the ads online."
But Kapral said it's a good problem to have.
The conference, which attracts more than 20,000 guests annually, is often jam-packed with "the best of the best" industry folk, he said.
Many of those tech pros come from gaming giants like Electronic Arts and Sony Computer Entertainment, companies that specialize in online gaming and mobile application development.
"[We] would like some of those people on our team," Kapral said.
Bally's vacant positions include mobile and interactive content developers, programmers, web developers, graphic artists, digital illustrators, motion-graphics artists, 3D animators and mathematicians.
The company has twice recruited at the conference – running this year from March 27-29 – and have nabbed a handful of employees currently developing software and applications for Bally.
"We've found it to have vibrant floor traffic," Kapral said of the conference. "It's quite a resume shop."
While Bally has turned to local applicants in the past – mining and hiring talent from UNLV's International Gaming Institute – Kapral said the company is after more graduates from "Princeton, Stanford and MIT."
"There's just not enough of them," Kapral said.
For those who land a job, pay runs the gamut, depending on the position and worker experience.
Applicants fresh out of college could land a job paying between $50,000 and $60,000. Someone with five years experiences could grab an offer worth closer to $100,000.
