Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race will soon have a new name: the Boyd Gaming 300.

Previously named the Sam’s Town 300 — a tribute to a Boyd Gaming property — the race has been sponsored by the gaming powerhouse since 1997 and will carry the new name beginning in 2014, the Speedway announced this week.

“The new name we’ve selected reflects what the race has become over the years,” said Paul Chakmak, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Boyd Gaming, “a marquee event for our customers across the country.”

The name change follows on the heels of Boyd’s recent Las Vegas debut of Bally Technology’s NASCAR slot machine.

Race officials expect NASCAR Weekend 2014 to begin on Friday, March 7, with Stratosphere Pole Day. The next day, March 8, welcomes the Boyd Gaming 300, followed by the Kobalt 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event on March 9.
