Boyd casinos introduce ‘Penny Lanes’ for penny slot fans
Four Boyd Gaming casinos debuted new "Penny Lane" areas today dedicated to penny slots.
The idea is to make the games easier to find.
“Penny slot games have become enormously popular over the last several years," said Steve Thompson, senior vice president of Nevada operations for Boyd Gaming.
Penny Lanes are being introduced at Gold Coast, Suncoast, Sam's Town and the Orleans. Games will be rotated regularly, and new selections will be offered.
Penny slots are one of the few growth areas Boyd has seen in its casinos nationwide over the last year, company officials said in an earnings report this morning.
David Strow, Boyd’s director of communications, said the new areas shouldn't be confused with a smaller set of slots by the same name at Sam's Town.
"That was a couple of banks," Strow said. "This is a much broader and more expansive offering."
The Penny Lane at the Orleans, for example, stretches across one aisle of the casino from the buffet to the table game area. There are more than 1,000 new games being added at the four Coast casinos.
"These are new games and also some of the hottest performing titles we've seen, not just in Las Vegas, but also at our other properties elsewhere in the country," Strow said.
