MGM Resorts recognized as a top company for diversity

For the seventh consecutive year, MGM Resorts International has been named one of the top U.S. companies for diversity.

It is the only business headquartered in Nevada and the only gaming company to be honored this year by DiversityInc, which ranks companies based on the results of annual surveys.

DiversityInc named MGM one of the “Top 10 Companies for Latinos,” and included MGM on its “25 Noteworthy Companies” list.

“Earning a position on the 25 Noteworthy list was especially difficult considering the increased competition,” DiversityInc CEO Luke Visconti said.

Companies were judged on CEO commitment, human capital, corporate and organizational communications and supplier diversity. Almost 600 businesses participated.

“As Nevada’s largest private company, we make it a business imperative to be a leader in all forms of corporate social responsibility, including diversity and inclusion,” Phyllis James, MGM executive vice president and chief diversity officer, said in a statement.

About 63 percent of MGM’s 61,000 employees are minorities. More than 40 percent of supervisors are women, and 38 percent are minorities.

Last year, the company spent more than $140 million doing business with suppliers and contractors who are women or minorities.
