Allegiant offering bargain flights in Thanksgiving promotion

An Allegiant Air jet takes off from McCarran International Airport on Friday, Aug. 26, 2011.

Allegiant Air is getting in on Thanksgiving sales mania again and — like many retail stores — it’s betting that customers will start bargain-hunting in the middle of the night.

The Las Vegas-based discount carrier said today it’s offering “Thanksgiving Day doorbusters.” The first 60 seats on select routes will cost as little as $33 one way.

The promotion, which kicks off 1 a.m. Thursday, includes six nonstop routes to McCarran International Airport — from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas; Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport in Montana; Des Moines International Airport in Iowa; Honolulu International Airport; Missoula International Airport in Montana; and Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport.

All of the routes start at $33, except Honolulu, which starts at $99.

“This Thanksgiving Day, savvy shoppers can get a flight to their favorite vacation destination for less than a kitchen appliance and without standing — or camping — in line,” Brian Davis, Allegiant Travel Co. vice president of business development, said in a news release.

Allegiant’s Cyber Monday sale also returns this year, with one-way fares as low as $59 on select routes and “deep discounts” on all fares, the company said. The promotion starts at 1 a.m. on Dec. 1.

The airline first offered its Thanksgiving promotion last year with $30 one-way tickets on select routes. That sale kicked off at 5 a.m. Thanksgiving Day.

It also had a Cyber Monday sale last year, with $59 one-way fares. That promotion began at 5 a.m.

Allegiant, known for selling cheap plane tickets with a bevy of add-on fees, shuttles leisure travelers from small, underserved cities to popular vacation spots. The carrier has been profitable for almost 12 consecutive years.
