Now open: Comfort food restaurants and a gym where you can work the calories off

Dickey’s has opened a location at 5597 S. Rainbow Blvd.

Looking for comfort food in the valley? You're in luck.

Several longtime favorite restaurants expanded to new locations.

Meanwhile, a fitness expert opened a gym where those who indulged can work off the grub.

A look at some of the newest businesses in the valley:

    • Mac Shack

Mac Shack opened a second location Oct. 21 at 8975 W. Charleston Blvd., Las Vegas. The original Mac Shack is at 8680 W. Warm Springs Road in Spring Valley.

Both locations feature the restaurant's signature pasta dishes, but owners Frank Masi and J Dapper also expanded the menu to include salads and grilled cheese sandwiches.

Mac Shack is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

If all goes well at the new location, Masi said, he and Dapper plan to open a third restaurant in Henderson.

    • Sweet Ruby Jane Confections

Sweet Ruby Jane Confections has a new home. The bakery moved in September to the Eastern Silverado Shopping Center at 9550 S. Eastern Ave, Las Vegas.

A Starbucks next door to the eatery's former location at 8975 S. Eastern Ave. wanted to expand, prompting owner Susan Philipp to look for a new spot.

“The timing was perfect,” she said.

Sweet Ruby Jane's new location is more spacious than the first, allowing Philipp to expand her offerings to include gourmet cotton candy.

The bakery is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

    • Dickey’s Barbecue Pit

This quick-service barbecue joint opened its second Las Vegas location Oct. 19 at 5597 S. Rainbow Blvd.

Like its predecessor at 7430 Las Vegas Blvd. South, it offers standard barbecue fare, such as ribs, pulled pork, smoked brisket and baked beans.

Both locations are open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

    • Rendering of the Colosseum Training Center

      Colosseum Training Center

The Colosseum Training Center, a gym, opened Saturday at 3306 St. Rose Parkway, Suite 110, Henderson.

The center features a workout area with weights and resistance bands and offers classes for all ages, including CrossFit and Stroller Camp. Memberships start at $55 a month.

“This facility has been a long time coming,” founder and trainer Boris Sapone said. “Now we have the capacity to train more people, as the elements will no longer be a factor.”

Sapone previously ran his workouts in local parks.

    • Re:lax Spa

Aliante has a new spa. Re:lax opened there Thursday.

The 3,500-square-foot spa offers massages, facials, manicures and pedicures for men and women, as well as eyebrow sculpting and waxing. It also has a steam room, a sauna, VIP rooms and couples rooms.

The spa is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
