Companies saw profits rise despite the stagnant economy, tourism to Las Vegas began to increase, and developers started planning projects to better accommodate both visitors and residents.

But the past year also presented challenges for many in the business community.

A handful of business leaders were named in lawsuits and criminal investigations, union members squabbled with employers, and the real estate market continued to twist and turn.
