Atlantic City to name new tourism head

A former top executive with food service giant ARAMARK has been hired to reshape the image of Atlantic City and its gaming-based tourism market, which has lost significant market share with the opening of gambling destinations in neighboring Pennsylvania and Delaware.

Liza Cartmell was set to be introduced this morning as the head of the newly created Atlantic City Alliance, a non-profit organization that assumes the marketing responsibilities long held by the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority.

Earlier this year, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie pushed for a restructuring of the coastal city's marketing apparatus, which had been overseen by the ACCVA. The New Jersey organization was plagued by small budgets, particularly when compared to the resources of the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority.

Among the key players in the newly formed Alliance is longtime Las Vegas casino industry executive Don Marrandino, eastern division president of Caesars Entertainment.
