Solar jobs join Harry Reid to Chinese billionaire in price drop

(via Bloomberg) · April 3, 2012 · 8:28 AM

A Chinese billionaire is teaming up with the most powerful man in the U.S. Senate to build a solar plant in a dusty corner of Nevada, even as officials accuse China of driving energy companies out of business by dumping cheap components on the American market.

  1. A foreign developer is teaming up with a US Career Politician to be set up to receive millions of dollars of US government cheeze, only to not fulfill promises and meet hiring quotas....and walk away with whatever is left.....to what end, at least Harry can claim another transparent victory in the battle to right the economy of Nevada.....job creation numbers are flawed to the short term with construction making up 80%. After it is done all those jobs go away. A short term shot in the arm for Nevada, another big time draw on wasting tax dollars for little or no return, well maybe a return to NV Energy as all solar equipment is only leased and not owned. What this does is make more money for one of Harry's top supporters.....NV Energy, which keeps his contribution machine well oiled in preparation of the next election. Senators and Congressmen have one concern during their tenure in office, and that is reelection, then comes the distasteful duty of appearing to be concerned with the constituent base. For the most part, whatever Harry does......is for Harry.....and no one else....

  2. The US currently produces more Oil than we have in ten years. We're even considering building a Pipeline from Canada to the refineries in Texas so we can ship Oil to China, after we provide Tax incentives to Multi-National Oil Companies for doing so.
Sooner Or Later we must transition to Alternatives. Had we followed Jimmy Carters Path of Energy Independence we would be there. Does anyone think we would have the same level of involvement in the Middle East if we were not depending on their Cheap Energy, manipulated by Speculators (Koch Brothers) with the full support of All Political Parties.

  3. While the solar photovoltaic industry has been improving efficiencies and dropping prices drastically in the last decade or two, the acceptance rate here in America has been slow. Despite this opportunity to move into alternative sources of energy, our tendency to stick with the 'devil we know' has plagued our progress. In the recent years, price drop and efficiency rise have shaken loose some exquisite values and brought the ghost of 'product dumping' to light. The dumping outpaced Solyndra and other American production potential competitors, and they bit the dirt as a result of this international competition. Reid's cooperation with Chinese manufacturing may be seen as a political ploy, but its potential in benefiting us is also quite appealing for a number of good reasons - jobs, expertise, lower price points, to name a few. But until we accept the opportunity to shift into a future of renewable sources, we will stay hooked-up to our antiquated, Earth-unfriendly fossil-driven gluttony. A simple energy audit and follow-up retrofit of existing facilities can eliminate much of our load in residential, commercial and industrial endeavors. These upgrades avail us the reduced demand that enables a shift to alternative sources, permanent national security, healthier environment, stronger economy and cross-curricular appreciation by our next generation in how our own actions and understandings can impact quality of life. This is the end of the fossil era, and adjusting to international competition and improved alternatives will take place as surely as the telegraph eliminated the pony express and cell phones outpaced pay phones.

  4. Why doesn't the media and Americans start to understand the true cost of a barrel of oil. Right now America has two aircraft carries near Iran . The American people spent millions of dollars on the military to keep oil tankers delivering oil. What does a barrel of oil really cost Americans ? what is the real cost of gallon to the taxpayers. 30,40 dollars a gallon. People it's time to talk about the real cost of a gallon of gas.

  5. Have you seen how far Air Force One runs with those turbines on top and the solar panels on the side??

True, the hot air generated by the man inside the plane, could run a small country for years. But it still needs Fuel to run. Fuel we have here could be the answer. Not from Chevez.

  6. Mark Anthony adds sarcasm and a juvenile sense of humor but successfully avoids any factually contextual discussion. He appears to be emotionally retarded perhaps as a result of being beaten as a child?
